ALDA together with many members of its network and of the consortium of the project LADDER, participated in the 5th edition of the Assises of Decentralized Cooperation for Development, organized by the European Commission and Committee of the Regions in Brussels on 10-11 July.
On the first day ALDA’s Secretary General, Antonella Valmorbida, brought the contribution of ALDA in the Round Table about Territorial Development. During this day, the publication “Decentralised cooperation and community approach as a tool for a strengthened cooperation between the European Union and Eastern Partnership Countries”, which contributes to the advocacy of the EaP Path of the LADDER Project was presented (see it in Useful links below). On the second day, during the workshop co-organised by ALDA and the Deputación of Valladolid, the LADDER Project was presented. The workshop, which focused on Development Education, was chaired by Mr. Marian Huc from SLOGA, Slovenian NGDO platform for development cooperation and humanitarian aid, active partner of LADDER, particularly engaged in activities impacting western Balkans.
Ms. Sofia Caiolo (ALDA), Project manager of LADDER, presented the survey implemented during the EU level trainings and she highlighted the important role that Local Authorities in cooperation with Civil Society Organisations can play in informing and changing citizens’ attitudes towards global issues. She then stressed that dialogue and cooperation between LAs and CSOs is at the basis of the LADDER project from its first day of implementation and all its activities are based on this fundamental approach.
Different perspectives and best practices about Development Education were presented during the workshop thanks to the valuable contribution from Mr. Shota Murgulia (Mayor of Kutaisi), Ms. Maria Carracedo (researcher from the University of Valladolid and representative of the Project Rural DEAR Agenda), Bernadette-Julia Felsch (City of Munich & Member of Climate Alliance), and Mr. José Manuel Herrero Mendoza (Junta de Castilla y León, Secretario General de la Consejería de la Presidencia).
