The 25th September 2017 was the 2nd anniversary of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ALDA and the LADDER project congratulated but also reflected on the tasks that still lie ahead of us!

More than 880 actions involving over 500 organisations in 109 countries took place on this day, in order to support the implementation of SDGs. ALDA took part in two actions through the LADDER project. Together with SDG Watch Europe, a large social media campaign was run in the last three weeks raising awareness on each SDG, and ending with the stunt of the “Pink Elephant” in Brussels, linked to the slogan “Can you see the elephant in the room?”, referring to the weak implementation SDGs as the problem to be solved. The action aims at asking the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, to do more on the implementation of SDGs at the European level.

A second initiative supported by LADDER, was the one implemented in collaboration with Concord Europe which was disseminated throughout the video “Blow the Candle out: SDG anniversary” #BlowTheCandle, identifying seven ‘birthday wishes’: The messages is clear, Europe needs to do more to reach the SDGs within the next 13 years. This call was specifically directed to the EU Commission’s Vice-President Timmermans. At the occasion of LADDER’s Youth Path special initiative (25th-27th September 2017) organized by Young European Federalists (JEF) in Brussels, the initiative was presented by Mrs. Lonne Poissonier (Policy Officer, Concord).
