In the framework of the European Local Democracy Week (an initiative of the Council of Europe) in Greece, University of Patras Radio Up Fm interviewed LADDER project manager, Nikos Gamouras on the importance of local democarcy and the ongoing activities regarding awareness raising.

The questions of the journalists focused on the role that local stakeholders have to play in the education and cultural inclusion in the environment of refugee flows, as well as the importance of Local Democracy. Among others, the challenges of “remaining local”, supporting local stakeholders and the opportunities that the network of ALDA offers to different stakeholders were discussed.

By representing both ALDA and experience in LADDER project, Mr Gamouras shared the challenges local authorities and CSOs face  when implementing activities and engaging citizens. He stressed the importance of informing citizens and engaging them in those contexts, taking strongly into accountthe local realities, involving citizens and communities while addressing the needs and issues of the global level, a position that ALDA is promoting since its early years of existence.
